About Me
I'm a Senior at the University of Florida working toward a Bachelor's Degree in English with a Linguistics Minor. Prior to starting at UF, I worked full-time in the Recreation field. Primarily stationed at a skatepark in Jupiter, Florida, I planned and executed events like contents and professional demonstrations and also managed a skate team of local teenagers. As a lifelong skateboarder, this was a dream job, but I left looking for something more.
In helping to design graphics and copy for these events, I realized that I wanted to work with writing, editing, graphic design, and similar creative pursuits. I will graduate in 2020 with the goal of becoming an editor.
Editor Statement
As an editor, my primary focus is in copyediting. With a background in Linguistics, I approach mechanical editing with a meticulous eye for detail to ensure that every sentence reaches its ideal form. With a background in English, I approach substantive editing through a vast knowledge of fiction and non-fiction literary styles and aim to ensure internal consistency for any and all publications. I’m most familiar with Associated Press and Chicago styles as well as MLA and APA citation styles.
I aim to use my writing and editing skills to create and edit work within the music and skateboarding industries for publications like Resident Advisor, Jenkem Magazine, and Skateism. With focuses on underground electronic music and a fresh take on skateboarding that caters to underground, DIY, and LGBT audiences, I aim to use my lifelong passion for music and skateboarding to build a career in the publishing world.
I want to work in fields I’m passionate about, on writing that feels substantial and worthwhile, and with people who share those same feelings. I intend my work to reflect my values and to progress the causes I believe in. At the end of the day, it is about writing and communication above all else.
